Squillo Summer
Vocal Institute

I Colori dell'opera's
Workshops, Master Classes and Summer Vocal Institute

Our Summer Vocal Institute, Educational Workshops and Master Classes are meant for any singer who is looking for their first step or the next step in their career as an opera singer.  Our summer institute is designed for beginning to intermediate level students in their vocal studies and provides a basis or an addition to their training.

Our  Workshops are meant for any singer who wants to develop skills while we are learning. It is taught by Houston's leading emerging artists who are currently involved in the opera community through performance and teaching.

Through instruction by teaching and performing artists based in Houston, we will provide performance opportunities, intensive study in appropriate roles for the current voice type, qualified teachers/coaches, score study, ear-training/sight-reading as well as access to master classes by professionals in the classical music field.

After our program, we know that you will have the basics to move forward an opera/classical singer representing the finest talent Houston has to offer.

Welcome to the Squillo Summer Vocal Institute. Our Vocal Institute is a one week intensive course that includes techniques in role study, presentation, auditioning, and creating your own recital.  Students will have the opportunity to study with and speak with professional singers and companies of the Greater Houston Area. Students who are accepted are also invited to participate in the Midsummer Soiree production: Harlem Nights, by either being cast in the opera or in an opera scene/chorus.

This is a customizable program that we tailor to the needs of the students who are accepted into our program.  In the orientation meeting, we determine the schedule that best fits the students and teacher schedule and gather information about the students' goals in their career as a performer and/or teacher.

Our ideal student is a high school junior/senior, community college or university student, a recent university graduate who is interested in opera or music education as a career.

Students will take courses with various Houston based teachers and participate in the Midsummer Soiree Concert on August 2 with the I Colori dell'opera Studio Artists.

Applications are open now.

Deadline to submit is April 1, 2026.
